Shalheveth
  The Shalheveth Mission:
To improve the quality of life for severely physically disabled adults who desire to live independent lives but lack the appropriate framework, skills and services that will allow them to overcome their fears and acquire the daily life skills needed to integrate into the community.

"Green Earth" Project: Many renovations were needed in order to upgrade the Shalheveth House - an independent living facility for disabled adults and their caregivers. Having succeeded in accomplishing the majority of renovations aimed at significantly improving the quality of life for residents, their caretakers and guests, and additional individuals that participate in various activities, we would now like to create a unique, one-of-its-kind-in-Israel, garden for wheelchair-bound people where they will be able to actively plant, care for and reap the fruits (and vegetables) of their efforts. By using a cleverly designed system of raised beds, residents, together with a companion, will be able to take pleasure in the outdoors and feel the joy and satisfaction that comes from tending to a garden – a joy that they have never been able to experience.

The cost of creating the garden, building a pergola and paving wheelchair accessible paths is $30,000. This funding support would allow us to establish the garden and in so doing, improve the quality of life for residents and visitors to the Shalheveth House.

"New Prospects" Project: According to many disabled adults, work is an important value that affords self-confidence and provides a feeling of equality. Shalheveth is seeking funding to support “New Prospects” - an economic empowerment pilot project aimed at:

  • Upgrading the quality of life for Shalheveth House residents
  • Providing disabled adults the opportunity to realize their potential
  • Enabling residents to actively contribute to their living expenses
  • Empowering disabled adults by giving them the chance to succeed as contributing members of society
  • Creating a working model that can be replicated to the larger community of disabled adults in Israel

To this end, Shalheveth is respectfully requesting $18,000 in funding for the "New Prospects" project in order to provide the tools that disabled adults need in order to join the work force and earn a salary to supplement their own living expenses which in turn lessens the economic burden on their families and on society.

Renovation Project: Our "Shalheveth Home" building in Shimoni Street is in great need of renovations. In particular, we need help in order to repair several apartments, to fix different items in the community hall and to put a roof over the entrance hall in order to protect people while waiting for transportation or for the lift.

The estimated cost for this project is $30,000.
